One of the best resources I've found for men's recovery
groups is "A L.I.F.E. Guide" by Dr. Mark Laaser. (L.I.F.E
stands for Living in Freedom Everyday.)
Mark is one of the Christian pioneers in the treatment and
healing from sexual sin, addiction, and brokenness. Mark
also wrote the first Christian book addressing the issue
of sexual addiction. He holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Psychology
and is a member of the advisory board of the National Association
for Christian Recovery.
Mark was a Protestant pastor until his pornography addiction
ruined his life and his ministry. Having successfully overcome
his sexual addictions, he has been leading others to do
the same. His book, while written from a Protestant perspective,
should prove helpful until a similar distinctively-Catholic
book is published. Surprisingly, Mark's enthusiasm for Roman
Catholic confession may encourage Catholic men to return
to the confessional.
Groups ranging in size from two to twenty should find the
L.I.F.E. Guide helpful. The Guide includes a group meeting
format, safety guidelines, and a rotating seven week schedule
of topics.
The Family
Life Center does not carry this book. The L.I.F.E. Guides
by Mark Laaser & the accompanying facilitator's manual can
be purchased online at http://freedomeveryday.org/
(resource section), or by writing LIFE Ministries, PO Box
952317, Lake Mary, FL 32795.
